Improvement of the geoid model over Japan using integral formulae and combination of GGMs

چکیده
An improved high-resolution gravimetric geoid model covering the four main islands of Japan (Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu) was developed on a 1 × 1.5 arc-minute grid from EGM2008, GOCO02S/EGM2008, and terrestrial gravity data. A modified form of the Stokes-Helmert scheme was applied for the determination of the geoid using an empirically determined optimal spherical cap size. Handling of the topographical effects on gravity was accomplished using the integral formulae of Martinec and Vaníček, which were found to be more suitable for geoid modeling over Japan than the classical formulae. EGM2008 was used in Hokkaido, Honshu, and Kyushu Islands, whereas a combination of GOCO02S and EGM2008 was used in Shikoku Island and its immediate surroundings. The global geopotential models (GGMs) used in this study were chosen based on our earlier evaluation of the performance of EGM2008and GOCE-related GGMs in Japan. In comparison with the previous geoid model for Japan, our new model shows an improvement in the standard deviation from ±8.3 to ±7.5 cm.

Evaluation of GOCE-based global gravity field models over Japan after the full mission using free-air gravity anomalies and geoid undulations
The performance of Gravity field and steady-state Ocean Circulation Explorer (GOCE) global gravity field models (GGMs), at the end of GOCE mission covering 42 months, is evaluated using geoid undulations and free-air gravity anomalies over Japan, including six sub-regions (Hokkaido, north Honshu, central Honshu, west Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu). Seventeen GOCE-based GGMs are evaluated and compa...
متن کاملGeoid-to-Quasigeoid Separation Computed Using the GRACE/GOCE Global Geopotential Model GOCO02S - A Case Study of Himalayas and Tibet
The geoid-to-quasigeoid correction has been traditionally computed approximately as a function of the planar Bouguer gravity anomaly and the topographic height. Recent numerical studies based on newly developed theoretical models, however, indicate that the computation of this correction using the approximate formula yields large errors especially in mountainous regions with computation points ...
متن کاملGeoid Determination Based on Log Sigmoid Function of Artificial Neural Networks: (A case Study: Iran)
A Back Propagation Artificial Neural Network (BPANN) is a well-known learning algorithmpredicated on a gradient descent method that minimizes the square error involving the networkoutput and the goal of output values. In this study, 261 GPS/Leveling and 8869 gravity intensityvalues of Iran were selected, then the geoid with three methods “ellipsoidal stokes integral”,“BPANN”, and “collocation” ...
متن کاملInvestigation of the Efficiency of Multi-purpose Gravity Network of NCC to Precise Geoid Determination, Case Study: Northwest Area of Iran
The national height system of Iran, orthomertic height, is referred to geoid as the vertical datum. Consequently, the geoid has many important applications in engineering. The slow, laborious and expensive orthomertic heights can be obtained in sufficient accuracy level from geodetic height (derived by GNSS observations) and a precise geoidal height. Over the past two decades, the gravity divis...
متن کاملOn the selection of GRACE-based GGMs and a filtering method for estimating mass variations in the Earth system over Poland
Since the launch of the GRACE (Gravity Recovery And Climate Experiment) satellite mission in 2002, significant progress in the knowledge regarding the temporal variations of the Earth’s gravity field has been achieved. The main objectives of this contribution are to define a suitable filter to reduce the noise contained in the latest release, i.e. RL05, of GRACE-based GGMs as well as to select ...
